Screening and discussion hosted by Dieuwertje Blok about Palestinian children in Israeli detention and the use of solitary confinement
Harry van Bommel, foreign affairs spokesperson for the Socialist Party in the Dutch parliament, will talk about his visit to an Israeli military court during a mission last year to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Gerard Horton, human rights lawyer from Defence for Children International – Palestine, will present the findings of a new report published by DCI Palestine and the continued use of solitary confinement in the Israeli military detention system (Unfortunately Gerard Horton will not be able to be present in person; instead he will be interviewed through Skype).
Sahar Baidoun, Coordinator for psychosocial activities for women and children, Madaa Center in Silwan (East Jerusalem). will address the psychosocial impacts of the arrest and detention of children in Silwan.
The evening will start with the screening of the short documentary film ‘Stolen Children, Stolen Lives‘ (Gerry O’Sullivan, 2011).
This public meeting is part of an ongoing campaign to bring the situation of Palestinian children in the Israeli military detention system to the attention of the Dutch public and politicians, and is organized by: gate48, platform for critical Israelis in the Netherlands, A Different Jewish Voice, Defence for Children International the Netherlands and Palestine Link, in cooperation with De Balie and United Civilians for Peace.
