Nir Baram in conversation with Abdelkader Benali
Saturday 3 October 2015, 20.00 De Balie Amsterdam
On Nir Baram’s journey through Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories
De Balie and gate 48 are organizing and evening with Israeli author Nir Baram and Abdelkader Benali on Saturday the 3rd of October at 20.00. They will talk about Baram’s journey through Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories. In addition they will discuss the relationship between his political engagement and Baram’s literary work, between Walking the Green Line and his latest novel World Shadow.
In the past year the acclaimed novelist Nir Baram (known from novels such as Good People and World Shadow) travelled through (and beyond) his homeland, driven by the desire to listen to voices usually unheard in mainstream media. Baram covered his journey in ‘Walking The Green Line’, 10 chapters which were published in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. His conversations with Israelis and Palestinians (politicians, kibbutzniks, settlers, political prisoners and soldiers) mirror the complex political situation in the region in times of tension, war and elections. How his political involvement relates to his writing is one of the central themes during his conversation with the writer Abdelkader Benali.
