Smadar Lavie, “wrapped in the flag of Israel”
Smadar Lavie is an Israeli anthropologist famous for her outspoken scholarship and activism for gender equality and social justice for both Israelis and Palestinians. Her latest book, Wrapped in the Flag of Israel, examines the life experiences and struggles of Mizrahi single mothers in Israel and connects it to social protest movements in Israel and the Middle East in the context of violence in Israel/Palestine and regional instability.
